I think that every teacher and every policy maker and every parent should watch this video. Also watch some of the related videos about augmented reality.

Why? Because, while the world keeps making portable applications that do these amazing things, the folks who make the decisions about education are either blocking us from using them, or pretending that they don’t exist, or even denying that they make a difference, and instead, continuing to pour money into a system centered around memorization and high stakes tests.

At what point do we take a look at the world around us and say, “OK. It’s now time to admit that these things exist AND that they are game-changers.”

OneNote 2007 + OrganizedHome.com

     This seems to me, to be a really nice fit.  I have just read an article about Organized Home.com and how it has MANY free printable forms for household activities.  When you take this and the abilities of OneNote 2007.

     I plan on looking into this further!

This is a nice add-in for Outlook 2007

Since we are all using Outlook 2007 now, here is a little program that Microsoft offers to help you add more flexibility when printing calendars from Outlook.

Outlook 2007 will print calendars out of the box – in fact it has been a feature of Outlook for quite a few versions now. However, Outlook 2007 can take support for the “pCal” format one step forward with the Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook 2007 or CPAO for short (ka-pow!). CPAO is an optional download from Office Online, it’s a separate application that allows you to print out day, week, month or year views of your calendar and control what it looks like. Even if you have the latest laptop/tablet/UMPC/mobile device, you might want to check it out too – it is a pretty cool app (even if it doesn’t use the ribbon).

OneNote 2007 Install Issues

     We are using OneNote in school to collaborate on Team and include our Guidance Staff and our Administration.  It is really going well!  One snag we have hit is that we have a few “select” plugins that are installed to utilize.  Our school notebooks are “locked down” rather tightly, and the plugins are effected.  With many of the plugins that have been created, they only work for the individual that installed them.  It doesn’t work on the teachers’ profile.

     I’ll have to do some posting on the forums to see if we have an answer that doens’t require a registry “crack”.

A Vision of Students Today is a video created by Professor Michael Wesch and the 200 students enrolled in ANTH 200: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University, Spring 2007. It began as a brainstorming exercise, thinking about how students learn, what they need to learn for their future, and how our current educational system fits in.

It’s pretty interesting to watch, plus you can also get a transcript of the A Vision of Students Today video here.

k12 Online Conference

     I have just finished watching David Warlick’s “fireside chat”.  It really had a lot of good information.

     One quote that really STRUCK me was when he commented about his generation being the last to watch Dad and see their future.  Definitely a powerful statement.

     My children growing up, 23 months and 3 years, don’t know what is “out there”.  This throws another curve ball for Mom’s and Dad’s.. preparing their kids for an “unknown” future…as well as teachers!
