Augmented Reality – Holy cow!

TipLine – Gates’ Computer Tips

I think that every teacher and every policy maker and every parent should watch this video. Also watch some of the related videos about augmented reality.

Why? Because, while the world keeps making portable applications that do these amazing things, the folks who make the decisions about education are either blocking us from using them, or pretending that they don’t exist, or even denying that they make a difference, and instead, continuing to pour money into a system centered around memorization and high stakes tests.

At what point do we take a look at the world around us and say, “OK. It’s now time to admit that these things exist AND that they are game-changers.”

Some Friday FUN for you!

This seems to me, to be a really nice fit.  I have just read an article about image Organized Home.com and how it has MANY free printable forms for household activities.  When you take this and the abilities of OneNote 2007.

I plan on looking into this further!

A thought provoker

I received this through Darren Straight’s Blog, he is a Microsoft Student Partner.

Here is the Blog info.

A Vision of Students Today is a video created by Professor Michael Wesch and the 200 students enrolled in ANTH 200: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University, Spring 2007. It began as a brainstorming exercise, thinking about how students learn, what they need to learn for their future, and how our current educational system fits in.

It’s pretty interesting to watch, plus you can also get a transcript of the A Vision of Students Today video here.

Enjoy!

Blame it on Mr. Rogers???

During the drive down to Virginia, Devon and I heard the most ridiculous news piece… A Professor had this “epiphany”, or so to speak…

Don Chance, a finance professor at Louisiana State University, says it dawned on him last spring. The semester was ending, and as usual, students were making a pilgrimage to his office, asking for the extra points needed to lift their grades to A’s.

“They felt so entitled,” he recalls, “and it just hit me. We can blame Mr. Rogers.”

You can click the Wall Street Journal to link to the article…

I’ve read several blogs about it… Just do a search in Google, a lot of comments are “popping” up about it!

Just Ridiculous

A Test Post with Live Writer Beta 2.0

OK, the UI sure looks nice!  It just had a bit of lag time, but that seems to MyOxxi_Eric Verno_groot have worked itself out.

As a teacher, I do like the feature for the spell check happening “live” for kids to see what mistakes they may have while writing.  I am planning on using this program a lot next school year.

The INSERT feature sure is nice!  Just dump the picture right into the post.

I love the way that the Add a Plugin feature makes it a lot easier to find a new plugin.

I can see why so many of the team’s bloggers were vocal about having to keep what was up, underwraps.  This way of verbalizing their feelings to the community, let us know that they weren’t able to, while peaking our curiosity!

I have been accused of drinking the “tainted” corporate juice, but I think Microsoft has really done a great job of listening to the community!  With the ‘07 package of Office and this!  Great JOB!
