Subject: Black Friday: Staples Compaq Presario C712US Notebook for $349

Staples is selling the Compaq Presario C712US for $349.98 on Black Friday. The C712US will be discounted by $400 for the post-Thanksgiving Day sale.

The C712US features an Intel Core Duo processor (T2310), 1GB of memory, 80GB hard drive and DVD burner.

The Compaq Presario C712US is a retail version of HP’s Compaq Presario C700T series. There are several retail models of the C700T that are being sold as Black Friday specials, including the C717NR for $299 at Circuit City. The C712US and C717NR have identical specs, but the C717NR is $449 at checkout, with a $150 mail in rebate. If you want to avoid the hassle of a rebate, go for the Staples deal.

This notebook is adequte for basic home users and is more than powerful enough for basic photo editing, web browsing and productivity applications. The C712US is not robust enough for complex video games or intensive video editing. It’s still an excellent value at $349, assuming you can get your hands on one on Black Friday.

The Presario C712US comes with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Best Buy will sell the Sony VAIO VGN NR110 E/S notebook for $399 on Black Friday. You’ll have to get in early if you want the $350 discount since there will be as few as 15 VAIO NR110 notebooks at each Best Buy store.

The VAIO NR110 is the cheapest laptop that Sony’s ever manufactured, but it’s specs are still impressive for $399. It comes with an Intel Core Duo processor, 1GB of memory, 120GB hard drive and DVD/CD burner. It has 802.11n wireless, which is much faster than the 802.11g found on most other Black Friday laptops.

The VAIO NR110 comes with an Express Card slot and two USB 2.0 ports for peripherals. It is bundled with software to watch content from a Sony Location Free TV base station.

Circuit City’s offering some excellent Black Friday deals on laptops and computer accessories. Those willing to camp out the night of Thanksgiving will get a chance to buy one of five deeply discounted laptops, including the Compaq Presario C717NR for $299, which is normally priced at $649.

The C717NR is the best Black Friday laptop deal I’ve ever seen. For $299 you get Vista Home Premium, an Intel dual-core processor, 80GB hard drive and DVD/CD burner. The T2310 dual core processor is much better than the Intel Celeron processors found in many sub-$500 notebooks. Most cheap notebooks skimp on the OS, leaving users stuck with Vista Home Basic. The C717NR also looks attractive, which is especially important if you plan on giving this to a student for the holidays.

The C717NR be available in limited quantities at Circuit City stores, where shoppers will get a $200 instant discount and a $150 mail-in rebate.

Complete C717NR Specs:

Display: 15.4 WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)

Processor: Intel Core Duo T2310, (1.46 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)

Memory: 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

Hard Drive: 80GB 5400RPM

Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Wireless: 802.11b/g WLAN

Optical Drive: SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Ports: 3x USB 2.0, VGA, mic-in, headphone-out, S-Video, LAN, modem

Weight: 6.3 pounds

Dimensions: 14.1 (L) x 10.11 (W) x 1.29 (min H)/1.58 (max H)

Circuit City will also sell an HP Pavilion for $549, a Sony VAIO for $899, a Toshiba Satellite laptop for $399 and a faster Toshiba Satellite for $749.

Here’s what we know about Circuit City’s Black Friday laptops so far:

$299.99 – The Compaq Presario C717NR laptop is retail version of the, which is available from HP from $449.

$399.99 – The Toshiba Satellite for $399 comes with an AMD Atlon 64 X2 dual core processor.

$549.99 – The HP Pavilion for $549 comes with an AMD Athlon 64XT TK-53 dual core processor. Not sure what model number this is going to be, but it’s something in the dv6600 series since it’s advertised as having a 15.4-inch display.

$749 – The faster Toshiba Satellite Laptop from Circuit City comes wth an AMD Turion 64X2 Dual Core Mobile TL-58 processor.

$899 – The Sony VAIO laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5240

It’s good to see Circuit City’s offering a range of Black Friday doorbuster deals, but it’s not doing the $99 laptop thing like it did last year.

Circuit City will include an all-in-one printer with the purchase of any laptop on Black Friday. Circuit City will also deeply discount a lot of electronics and computer accessories on Black Friday.

$3.99 – 50 pack of DVD+R/-R from Nexxtech

$14.99 -1GB of DDR2 Memory for notebooks

$79.99 – 500GB Seagate external drive

$249.99 -19 LCD HDTV from Samsung

$999.99 – 50 Zenith Plasma HDTV

Best Buy’s going to have at least 15 HP Pavilion dv6407nr notebooks at each store for $449, a $200 discount. The retailer will also offer the dv6407nr bundled with an Epson all-in-one printer, notebook bag, TrendMicro AntiVirus and wireless mouse for $549.

The HP Pavilion dv6407nr comes with 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive and DVD RW burner. It includes an AMD Athlon X2 processor and standard 6-cell battery.

The dv6407nr bundle for $549 is only worth it if you really do need all of the accessories listed, even though Best Buy is trying to promote the bundle as $440 in instant savings. It will be very difficult to score one anyways, since there will be as few as three dv6407nr bundles at each Best Buy store on Black Friday.

The HP Pavilion dv6407nr is a retail version of the HP’s Pavilion dv6400 series. You won’t find this exact model number at other retailers besides Best Buy during Black Friday, but you can compare it to others that start with “HP Pavilion dv64,” followed by two numbers which signify the exact specs.

If you don’t want to wait in line on Black Friday, keep an eye on Best Buy’s discount page, or customize your own directly with HP. The dv6407nr has some decent specs, but I strongly recommend 2GB of RAM, which can be added later. One thing missing from the dv6407nr is a web cam, which can be added on to the dv6500z at HP’s direct store.

Best Buy is discounting the Toshiba Satellite P205-S7402 by $200 on Black Friday. This 17-inch notebook is the only Black Friday one we’ve found so far that includes a HD DVD drive.

The P205-S7402 includes 2GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive and DVD/CD burner, which also plays back HD DVDs. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and comes with Windows Vista Home Premium.

The P205-S7402 looks like a nice basic multimedia notebook, with some nice specs for the price point. The P205 comes with an inadequate standard battery, so make sure to pick up a second one – preferably the optional 12-cell battery. Also, one of the advantages of getting a P205 is it can handle a second hard drive, but the P205-S7402 doesn’t have one since it’s a doorbuster special. A 160GB hard drive is a nice start, but you’ll need to pick up a second hard drive down the line if you plan on packing tons of multimedia onto it.

If you can’t wait in line or miss out on this, head over to Toshiba Direct and The price will be higher than Best Buy’s Black Friday price, but you will be able to pick and chose your options.

P205-S7402 Specs:

Display: 17-inch Trubrite Widescreen Display WXGA

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB)

Circuit City will sell the HP Pavilion dv6439nr notebook for $549.99 on Black Friday, after a $150 rebate. Normally priced at $899, this AMD powered notebook is more expensive than the cheapest Black Friday laptops, but the dv6439nr does have 2GB of memory and a webcam.

The dv6439nr is an excellent value at $549 and should satisfy most home users, as long as they don’t plan on using it for serious video gaming or video editing. The 15.4-inch Brightview widescreen display, with 1280×800 resolution, is big enough to fully enjoy movies and show off your latest photos.

It’s powered by a 1.7GHz AMD Turion 64 XT Dual Core processor, which is respectable, but far from the fastest AMD mobile processor. It comes with a 160GB hard drive and DVD burner with dual-layer support.

The HP Pavilion dv6439nr is Circuit City’s version of the dv6400 series. Notebooks in this series are sold by several retailers, with each designating the last two digits and letters to differentiate between stores and exact specifications. For this reason, you will not find the dv6439nr at other retailers during the holiday season. Best Buy is selling a similar model- the dv6409nr for $399, but with only 1GB of memory, a slower hard drive and no webcam.

I’m a fan of HP Pavilion dv6400 series notebooks and its entertainment features, including QuickPlay and its dedicated media buttons at the top of the keyboard. If you can’t make it to Circuit City on Black Friday you can still score some deals on their web site throughout the holiday season.

HP Pavilion dv6439 specs:

Display: 15.4-inch WXGA High-Definition Bright View Widescreen Display

Processor: 1.7 GHz, AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-53 (512KB L2 Cache)

Hard Drive: 160GB 5400RPM

Memory: 2GB DDR2 Memory (2x 1024MB)

Ports: VGA, 3 x USB 2.0, LAN, modem, stereo headphone jack with SPDIF, S-Video, ExpressCard, HP Expansion port/Port replicator

Battery: 6-Cell

Wireless: 802.11b/g

I/O: Keyboard, TrackPad, HP Media Controls, QuickPlay

Optical: SuperMulti 8x DVDRW with Double Layer Support

Weight: 6.14 pounds

Dimensions 14.05-inches wide x 10.12 inched deep x 1 to 1.69-inch thick

Card Reader: 5-in-1
